Taiwan is a subtropical island with 1,600 kilometers of coastline and an abundance of fisheries resources. The government's purpose in establishing this station was to promote the development of the ocean's vast potential and provide fishermen at sea with quick and accurate weather forecasts allowing them to protect their lives and property. Therefore in 1980 the General Political Warfare Headquarters of the Ministry of Defense requested the Intelligence Bureau to plan and construct this station.

   On January 15^th 1983, the station was formally established under the permission of Taiwan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Forestry. The station is located in Kaohsiung and is close to the Chienchen fishing harbor. The station's transmitter is located in Paisha township in Penghu county. Work on the transmitter was completed in March 1983, and the station was fully fitted out by June. The first trial broadcasts of fisheries weather forecasts were made from the Penghu transmitter on July 1 of the same year. The relay system between Kaohsiung and Penghu was finished in November, which meant that the station was finally completed. The station began formal broadcasting activities on January 8, 1984. As the structure and functions of the Taiwan Provincial Government were readjusted on 1999 July 1^st, the station was merged to the Fisheries Agency, the Council of Agriculture(COA).  After the reorganization of the COA, the Station is now under the Fisheries Agency, the Ministry of Agriculture(MOA) since August 1^st 2023.
