1. President Lai Calls for United Support of Coast Guard During National Oceans Day Drill
On June 8, Taiwan marked its sixth National Oceans Day with the theme “Diverse Oceans, Sustainable Coexistence.” President Lai Ching-te attended the “Coast Guard Exercise No. 12” at Kaohsiung Port, emphasizing the importance of strengthening maritime defense and calling on all political parties to support the Coast Guard. President Lai highlighted the urgent need for infrared thermal imaging systems to enhance nighttime surveillance and improve maritime security. He also stressed the importance of unmanned systems and smart monitoring to build a more comprehensive air, sea, and underwater defense network.
2. Taiwan Fisheries Agency Marks World Oceans Day with Fish Release and Support for Migrant Fishers in Keelung
In celebration of the 2025 World Oceans Day theme, “Wonder: Sustaining What Sustains Us,” Taiwan’s Fisheries Agency under the Ministry of Agriculture held a special event on June 6 at Keelung’s Badouzi Fishing Port and nearby waters. The event, titled “World Oceans Day Fish Fry Release and Foreign Crew Member Appreciation,” combined ecological conservation with cross-cultural exchange, underscoring the dual commitment to ocean sustainability and labor welfare.
