1. Taiwan becomes only Asian country free of three major swine diseases
Taiwan is now the only country in Asia free of African swine fever, classical swine fever and foot-and-mouth disease, after the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) declared Thursday that it is free of classical swine fever. The last confirmed case of classical swine fever in Taiwan was reported in 2005 in Changhua County and no additional cases have been detected since, according to the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA).
2. Fisheries Agency Plans Wage Protection Mechanism for Distant-Water Crew
To protect the labor rights of foreign crew members and promote the sustainable development of distant-water fisheries, the Fisheries Agency is drafting a “Wage Protection Mechanism for Distant-Water Fishing Vessel Crew.” The agency plans to visit the Donggang and Liuqiu District Fishermen's Associations in early June to explain the new system, aiming to foster mutual communication and understanding with the fishing community.
