1. Incentives for Distant-Water Fishing Vessel Emergency Rescues Raised, Daily Reward Up to NT$240,000
The Ministry of Agriculture has amended the “Guidelines for Rewards for Distant-Water Fishing Vessels Assisting in Maritime Emergency Rescue and Search Operations,” increasing the daily reward amount by more than 25% depending on the vessel’s gross tonnage. The maximum daily reward can now reach NT$240,000. This adjustment aims to address the challenges of conducting rescues in distant waters and to support fishermen while encouraging mutual aid among fishing vessels.
2. Taiwan culls over 36,000 green iguanas in first 4 months of 2025
More than 36,000 green iguanas have been culled since a campaign to eliminate the invasive species was launched at the beginning of this year, around three times the number in the same period of 2024, the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency (FANCA) reported Wednesday.
