1. Fisheries Agency Partners with Keelung Fishermen's Association to Host Fishermen Sports Day
In order to care for the lives of foreign fishing workers, the Fisheries Agency not only subsidized the Keelung Fishermen's Association to set up washing facilities and prayer rooms for foreign crew members, but also organized activities to care for foreign fishermen, allowing them to relax and unwind. This year’s foreign fisherman care event was held on December 27 at the Badouzi Fishing Harbor in Keelung. The event featured a "Fishermen's Sports Day" with activities such as a human claw machine, human caterpillar race, rope tying, and a basketball shooting contest. Additionally, there were Indonesian hometown dishes and snacks from local night markets to taste.
2. Taiwan, Japan present joint research findings on shortfin mako shark
Taiwan's Fisheries Research Institute (FRI), in collaboration with local and Japanese universities, presented their findings on the behavioral characteristics and thermoregulation mechanisms of the shortfin mako shark. This species of shark, classified as "endangered" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, is one of the most common bycatches of Taiwanese commercial longline and gillnet fisheries, the FRI said at a press conference.
