The Center urges the public not to bring in or mail pork products from ASF-affected countries.
2. Banned Drug Found in Taiwan Tilapia as Yunlin Farm Is Quarantined
The Fisheries Agency announced that Taiwan tilapia sold at PX Mart tested positive for the banned veterinary drug enrofloxacin (0.028 ppm), marking the first detection in domestic tilapia. The retailer has removed the product from shelves. Investigation traced the source to a farm in Yunlin County. The Fisheries Agency has requested the Yunlin government to impose full movement control and is conducting sampling and epidemiological checks. Enrofloxacin is approved for livestock but prohibited in aquatic animals. Excessive intake may cause drowsiness, convulsions, or breathing difficulties. The affected tilapia were not traceable certified. Deputy Director-General Miau Tzu-chang said inspectors will sample other fish to determine deliberate use. If no residues are found, contamination from neighboring farms or water sources will be examined. The agency reminds consumers to choose traceability-certified seafood and assures that findings will be announced once the investigation is complete. Movement control will remain until then.
