1. Premier Inspects Border Quarantine at Taoyuan Airport, Sets Four Key Measures to Prevent African Swine Fever
Premier Chuo Rong-tai visited Taoyuan International Airport on November 8 to review border quarantine operations, stressing stronger X-ray screening, more manpower, and sniffer dog deployment to block illegal imports. Since Taiwan’s first African Swine Fever case on October 22, emergency measures have contained the outbreak, allowing pig auctions and slaughter transport to resume on November 7.Premier Chuo, joined by Agriculture Minister Chen Chun-chi, inspected cargo and baggage checks, noting coordinated efforts have kept the outbreak to a single site. With pork prices at NT$103/kg, the government plans industry support and outlined four key measures to prevent ASF entry. Ahead of next year’s tourism-driven budget, manual inspections will increase by at least 20%, adopting a “zero-trust, zero-tolerance” approach to maintain biosecurity.

Fisheries Agency Hosts Market Night for Foreign Crew Members in KaohsiungTo honor foreign crew members’ contributions to Taiwan’s fishing industry, the Taiwan Christian Peace Foundation, the Taiwan International Workers’ Association for Seafarers and Fishermen, and the Fisheries Agency held the 2025 Foreign Crew Taiwan Market Night on November 7 at Qianzhen Fishing Port. The event featured food trucks offering Taiwanese and international dishes, allowing migrant fishermen to enjoy local flavors without leaving the port. Deputy Director-General Lin Ting-jung emphasized that foreign crew members are vital to Taiwan’s fishing sector. Since the launch of the Fisheries and Human Rights Action Plan four years ago, the government has improved labor conditions, living environments, and social protections for fishermen. Lin reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to further enhancing labor rights and workplace safety. Through food, music, and social interaction, the event gave migrant fishermen a sense of community and warmth, helping them feel at home while far from their families.
