1. ASF Under Control: Taiwan to Resume Pork Industry Operations Starting November 6
After an African swine fever (ASF) case was confirmed at a pig farm in Taichung’s Wuqi District, authorities imposed a 15-day nationwide suspension on live pig transport and slaughter. With no additional infections detected, the Central Emergency Operation Center for ASF announced on November 5 that the ban will be lifted in stages—live pig transport will resume at noon on November 6, and slaughtering and auctions will restart on November 7.Officials said that thorough inspections of the affected Taichung farm and pig farms across the country found no new cases. Central and local governments have completed the required disinfection and containment measures, marking the transition into the third phase of epidemic control. The successful containment allows Taiwan’s pork industry to gradually return to normal operations.
2. Taiwan Exports 10 Tons of Bananas to Japan for 68,000 Students' School Lunches
To strengthen Taiwan–Japan agricultural ties, the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) held a press conference on November 2 at Taipei's Hope Plaza to announce the export of 10 tons of Taiwanese bananas to Japan for use in school lunches. The event was hosted by Deputy Minister Hu Chung-i, joined by representatives from Japan’s Kasama Taiwan Office, the Taiwan Good Agricultural Products Development Association, and the Taiwan Banana Industry Strategic Alliance. Following previous exports of pineapples and mangoes, bananas will now be served in school lunches across 18 municipalities—including Mito, Tsuchiura, Kasama, Naka, Omigawa, Daigo, and Tokai—covering 223 schools and benefiting about 68,000 students. The MOA said it will continue to work with Japanese local governments and educational institutions to promote Taiwanese agricultural products through food education and branding, aiming to deepen long-term market development and strengthen the friendship between Taiwan and Japan through agricultural cooperation.
