1. Taiwan Marks Fishermen's Day with New Award for Migrant Crew
The 114th National Fishermen’s Day was held September 12 at Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf. President Lai Ching-te and MOA Minister Chen Jun-ji honored model fishermen for their innovation, sustainability, and community contributions.For the first time, the Model Foreign Crew Member Award was presented, highlighting the role of migrant workers in Taiwan’s fishing industry. Two Indonesian crew members, CAKIDA and SOLI HUN, were recognized for their long-term contributions and community engagement. President Lai pledged continued government support through measures such as the “Three Insurances and One Fund,” and an NT$18 billion program to counter possible impacts from U.S. reciprocal tariffs.The Fisheries Agency noted that both local fishermen and foreign partners are vital to Taiwan’s fishing sector, stressing that Fishermen’s Day is not only a celebration but also a tribute to all who safeguard marine resources.
2. Taiwan Awards Youth Teams in 15th Rural Regeneration Competition
The Ministry of Agriculture has announced the winners of the 15th College Student Rural Regeneration Competition. This year, 20 teams with 152 students worked in 19 counties on projects spanning industrial upgrading, digital innovation, and community revitalization. The Gold Award went to the team “Xiào Nián ê, Ān-la!” from National United University. Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim, attending the ceremony on Sept. 14, said the program is a platform for intergenerational collaboration and urged young people to continue bringing passion and expertise back to rural areas.The Ministry also introduced new awards this year, including Best Stage Performance and Community Cohesion. Applications for the 2026 competition are now open.
