1. Taiwan Launches “Agricultural Digital Integrated Services” App to Streamline Farmer Services
The Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) has launched the “Agricultural Digital Integrated Services” app to streamline inquiries and applications for farmers. Available from Jan. 2, the app provides access to 11 types of records, including pension contributions, education subsidy status, disaster relief history, and farm machinery subsidies, eliminating the need for phone inquiries.Users can also apply online for agricultural and aquatic product traceability labels and join local young farmer associations. A personal digital ID code allows farmers to purchase pesticides and fertilizers without carrying physical documents. With SMS-based authentication, members can access real-time market prices, production forecasts, upcoming events, and training information, enhancing administrative efficiency and digital services across the sector.
2. Northeast Monsoon to Bring Colder Seas, Fisheries Agency Urges Caution
A strengthening Northeast Monsoon is expected to bring a sharp temperature drop across Taiwan from Jan. 2 to 3, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said. Morning lows in northern Taiwan and Yilan may fall to 11–14°C, with some areas below 10°C, while eastern Taiwan and the Kaohsiung–Pingtung region could see 14–16°C. From New Year’s Eve through New Year’s Day, northern and eastern regions may experience intermittent showers and increased cloud cover, while central and southern Taiwan will see stable weather but large day-to-night temperature swings. Coastal winds and waves are also expected to strengthen.The Fisheries Agency urged fishermen in coastal and offshore waters to monitor sea conditions and return to port if necessary. Aquaculture operators were advised to adjust water levels, improve water quality management, use insulation covers, and monitor water temperatures to reduce cold-related losses. The agency also reminded the public to take precautions against cold and strong winds and to pay special attention to elderly family members during the cold spell.
