1. Taiwan fresh pork exports to Singapore restart after 15-year hiatus
The first batch of fresh pork from Taiwan was shipped to Singapore on January 8th after the city state announced in November 2024 it would reopen its market to imports of Taiwanese pork for the first time in 15 years. At the Pingtung event, executives from the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding, formally launching their partnership in the presence of Minister of Agriculture Chen Junne-jih. Chen said in his address that Taiwan used to be an important pork exporter, but due to problems in controlling swine-related diseases, Taiwan's pork exports to Singapore were suspended for over a decade.
2. Taiwan, Japan to discuss fisheries issues at annual meeting in Tokyo
Taiwan and Japan will hold an annual meeting in Tokyo next week to review guidelines for the two countries' fishermen in waters that cover the disputed Diaoyutai Islands northeast of Taiwan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said on January 10th. The 11th Taiwan-Japan Fishery Committee meeting will take place in the Japanese capital on Jan. 14-16 under the Taiwan-Japan Fisheries Agreement signed on April 10, 2013, the ministry said in a statement.
