The Ministry of Agriculture has revised and issued amendments to the "Trial Measures for Agricultural Occupational Accident Insurance," increasing the benefit levels for occupational injury and disease insurance for farmers. Without changing the insurance premium payments by farmers, those who suffer from occupational injuries or diseases while engaged in agricultural work and are unable to work can now apply for injury and disease benefits. For the first two months, the daily amount has been increased from 476 NT dollars to 680 NT dollars. From the second year onwards, the daily amount will be raised from 340 NT dollars to 476 NT dollars. This new system will be effective from September 1, 2024.
2. New Regulations on Knifejaw Fish Come into Effect on 9/1
To ensure the sustainable use of knifejaw fisheries, the Fisheries Agency of the Ministry of Agriculture announced "Knifejaw Fish Catch Control Measures" on February 7, 2024. Under these regulations, it is prohibited for fishermen and fishing industry professionals to engage in fishing operations targeting knifejaw fish with a body length of less than 50 cm. The regulations will take effect on September 1, 2024. The Fisheries Agency urges fishermen to comply with these rules to protect knifejaw fish resources. According to the agency, the prohibition on catching knifejaw fish under 50 cm is based on scientific research and aims to allow immature and economically less valuable smaller knifejaw fish to grow naturally in the sea, achieving a win-win situation for both fishermen and consumers.
